Top Christmas Songs of All Time
With Christmas every year, there are fond memories for many of us. It’s especially thrilling and joyous to see the smiles on the faces of people as they are Christmas shopping, or just outside taking in the Christmas season. With Christmas comes for many the enjoyment of decorating the home or workplace with all the bright Christmas colours, trees and ornaments. There’s the smell of all the delicious hams, turkeys, sauces, and other foods of the main course meal wafting in the air along with the aromas of pies, pastries, and delicious candies. It’s also a time of wonderful Christmas songs, such as “White Christmas” and many more. They always evoke strong emotions, and memories of the many Christmas’s in your past. There are so many beautiful Christmas songs that it could be debated that any of a hundred or more should be in the top five. Certain singers, also, can bring any one of them to the top. You probably know of certain Christmas songs, too, that are associated with certain special voices. Burl Ives’ “A Holly Jolly Christmas”, Elvis’ “Blue Christmas”, or Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” are only a few such associations eternally. “The Little Drummer Boy” was written and composed by three people in 1958: Katherine K. Davis, Harry Simeone, and Henry Onarati. It was a huge hit for the Bing Crosby and David Bowie, singing in great harmony together. The instrumentation and lyrics of this Christmas song are spine-tingling as much as their extraordinary voices.

“Rudolph the Red- Nosed Reindeer” was originally a story written by Robert May in 1939. The ” Singing Cowboy”, as he was known, Gene Autrey, put it to song and made it a hit in 1949. NSYNC, the boy band of the ’90s made it a huge hit, also.

“White Christmas” was presented to the world in a 1942 movie, Holiday Inn. This song earned an Academy Award that year, and was a mega-hit for Bing Crosby. His version has sold many millions of copies, and is still very popular today.

“The First Noel” was originally a classical English carol, dating back to the1700s. It was first published as its form today in 1823 after it was edited by William Sandys, and arranged with more lyrics by Davies Gilbert. Mariah Carey sings an inspiring version of this great Christmas song.

“Happy Christmas”, by legendary songwriter, and former Beatle, John Lennon. John released this song in ‘71. It was also a plea to end the Vietnam War. The message for a happy Christmas and peace for all mankind make this simple song timeless and profound.
